The San Diego Chargers are an American professional football team based in San Diego, California. The San Diego Chargers play in the Western Division of the American Football Conference (AFC) in the National Football League (NFL). The team has been in San Diego since 1961 after spending the first season in Los Angeles as the Los Angeles Chargers.
The Chargers are owned by Alex G. Spanos, with his son Dean Spanos the president and CEO of the organization. The Chargers have six players and one coach enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio. The Chargers were formed by hotel mogul, Barron Hilton in 1959 as the Los Angeles Chargers. The Los Angeles Chargers were one of eight football teams that made up the newly founded American Football League that began in 1960. In 1961 the Chargers moved to San Diego to become the city's first major league sports franchise. The San Diego Chargers played in the AFL for 10 years and won the AFL Championship in 1963 beating the Boston Patriots. - 2007/8: The Chargers went 11-5 again in the 2007 season under new head coach, Norv Turner, finishing first in the AFC West Division. They won their playoff wild card game, defeating the Tennessee Titans, and then continued to the AFC Championship Game after defeating the Indianapolis Colts. - 1994/5: After starting the season winning their first six games, the Chargers finished the season 11-5, and became the 1994 AFC West Division champions behind a defense led by linebacker Junior Seau, defensive tackles Reuben Davis and Shawn Lee, defensive end Leslie O'Neal and an offense keyed by running back Natrone Means, quarterback Stan Humphries, and wide receiver Tony Martin. They defeated the Miami Dolphins (22-21) and Pittsburgh Steelers (17-13) in the playoffs to reach their first Super Bowl against the San Francisco 49ers. Charger Girls
Formed in 1990, the Charger Girls are the official dance team for the San Diego Chargers. The Charger Girls act as ambassadors for the Chargers organization and the San Diego community. As such, the Charger Girls devote much of their time to charity groups such as the Junior Seau Foundation, Make-A-Wish Foundation, Children's Hospital, the American Diabetes Association, and D.A.R.E.
The Charger Girls are produced by Olmstead Entertainment and consists of 28 entertainers from all walks of life. They also are managed by e2k Sports and Entertainment, who has produced nine NFL and NBA dance teams.
