During each season, the San Diego Chargers play 16 games in their regular season plus four pre-season contests in the National Football League. The regular-season games are spread over 17 weeks and divided equally among home and away games, playing eight at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego, California. In the 2010 NFL season, the exact dates and times of each game were announced on April 20, 2010, while their opponents were announced much earlier based on standard NFL schedule policies.http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/story/10551681?tag=pageRow;pageContainer
According to NFL rules, the Chargers will meet their three AFC West opponents twice during the year, once each at home and on the road. These opponents include the Denver Broncos, Kansas City Chiefs and Oakland Raiders. Additionally, San Diego will face each of the teams in the AFC South, the Houston Texans, Indianapolis Colts, Jacksonville Jaguars and Tennessee Titans. Four additional games come against teams in the NFC West, including the Arizona Cardinals, St. Louis Rams, San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks. The final two regular-season games come against the 2009 American Football Conference division winners, as the Chargers won their division in that season as well. These will be staged against the New England Patriots and Cincinnati Bengals.http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/story/10551681?tag=pageRow;pageContainer
In the 2009 season, the Chargers finished the season with a respectable 13-3 record, including an 11-game winning streak to close the year. That performance earned the team a first-round bye in the NFL Playoffs and home-field advantage. San Diego was seeded second in the AFC, playing the New York Jets in the NFL Divisional Weekend. While the game was close, the Chargers were upset by the fifth-seeded Jets and rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez. The Chargers held the Jets to just three points in the first three quarters, but New York came back in the fourth to score two touchdowns and win the game 17 to 14.http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/gamecenter/recap/NFL_20100117_NYJ@SD?tag=pageContainer;link
