Professional basketball team, the San Antonio Spurs play in the Southwest Division of the NBA's Western Conference.
Early History
The team was originally founded in 1967 as part of the American Basketball Association as the Dallas Chaparrals. In 1970 the team name was changed to the Texas Chaparrals in hopes to spur attendance at home games. In 1976 the team was absorbed into the NBA following the dissolution of the ABA.
