Samuel Thompson was a quarter horse jockey who died on December 25, 2008, due to injuries sustained after being thrown off of a horse following a race in Los Alamitos, California on December 20. Thompson had been listed in critical condition following his accident and was pronounced dead days later at Los Alamitos Medical Center after Thompson's family decided to take him off of life support.
