Sam Shepard, a playwright and actor, was arrested on Saturday, January 3, 2008, after being pulled over by police for speeding. Once he was pulled over police suspected that he was driving under the influence of alcohol. Background
Sam Shepard debuted as a playwright on October 16, 1964. He received numerous Obie awards during his career, culminating with his induction into the American Academy of Arts and Letter in 1986 and the Theatre Hall of Fame in 1994. From 1968 through 1971 he also played guitar and drums with a rock band called the Holy Modal Rounders. Married to actress O-Lan Jones Dark in 1969, they were divorced in 1984. DUI Incident
On January 3, 2009, Shepard was leaving Fat Jack's tavern when police pulled him over for speeding 15-20 mph over the speed limit. Based on the way he pulled onto the curb, officers suspected he was driving under the influence. Shepard reportedly had a blood alcohol content twice the legal limit of 0.08.
