Cassell joined the Milwaukee Bucks in the middle of the 1998/99 season after being traded by the New Jersey Nets in a three team trade that also involved the Minnesota Timberwolves. Due to injuries Cassell only appeared in four games for the Bucks. It was in the 1999/2000 season that Cassell finally began to break out.
That year Cassell scored 18.6 points per game while averaging 9 assists per game setting a personal precedent he would continue during his career with the Bucks. Sam Cassell's Career with the Minnesota Timberwolves
Just months before the 2003/04 season, Sam Cassell was dealt to the Minnesota Timberwolves where he picked up where he left off both in scoring and dishing out assists. Over the course of that season, Cassell scored a career high 19.8 points per game while dishing out 7.3 assists per game. Cassell helped the Timberwolves reach the Western Conference Finals and scored a franchise playoff-record 40 points twice, once against the Denver Nuggets, and once against the Sacramento Kings.
