Sam Brownback is the senior Senator from Kansas. Preceded by Sheila Frahm, Brownback has held his seat in Senate since 1996. He ran for the Republican Party's nomination for President in 2008. However, on October 18, 2007, he withdrew his bid for the nomination due to a lack of funds. Sponsoring the Food and Drug Administration Amendment Act of 2007, Sam Brownback supported the idea of giving incentives to drug companies to discover treatments for a neglected tropical disease. He has also voted on limiting self-employment health deductions. In 2003, Brownback voted against allowing the importation of prescription drugs from Canada.
