Salisbury Steak is fried, baked or broiled ground beef mixed with minced onions, egg, milk, bread crumbs or crackers, and various seasonings. It is formed in a large patty to resemble a steak and cooked in a brown or sometimes tomato-based gravy or sauce. Mushrooms are commonly added to the gravy.

How to Make Salisbury Steak

Step 1. Mix 3 pounds beef, chopped garlic and onions, 2 eggs, 3 tablespoons flour, salt and pepper. Step 2. Shape meat mixture into patties or if you like shape into meatballs. Step 3. Brown patties or meatballs in a pan with a little oil. Do not cook, just brown outside. Step 4. Sauce: Saute the fresh mushrooms in a little oil for 5 minutes. Add cream of mushroom soup. Add water and half and half to make the sauce creamy. Add Worcestershire sauce. Step 5. Add patties or meatballs to sauce and simmer 10 minutes on medium-low heat. Add salt and pepper to taste. Step 6. Serve with rice, potatoes, bread, or pasta with a side of vegetables.
