Sage Francis

Sage Francis is a Miami born rapper and poet.

Based in Providence, Rhode Island, Sage Francis recorded his first demo tape in 1996 as a member of the band Art Official Intelligence. He independently produced his music and marketed himself via the internet, gaining significant exposure after he released the song Makeshift Patriot a month after the 9-11 attacks. In the song, Francis criticizes the response of both the media and American citizens as ignorant and insincere. His first true album, Personal Journals, came a year later and resulted in a three album deal from Epitaph Records. Francis remains one of the most popular underground alternative hip-hop artists and has a large cult following.
