The Shrine Exposition Center has been the location for the event since the first ceremony, which took place on February 25, 1995. The date of the Screen Actors Guild Awards used to take place near the end of February, but as of 2005, the event has taken place near the end of January.

The Screen Actors Guild also presents a Life Achievement award during the ceremony. The Award has been presented to a performer since 1962. Some notable recipients include Kirk Douglas, Robert Redford and Elizabeth Taylor.

  • How winners are chosen

Two panels of 2100 Screen Actors Guild members are randomly selected to become a nominating committee. The group votes on performances from the year. Those results form the basis for a final ballot. All of the members of the Screen Actors Guild then choose a winner from the final ballot. Those results then determine the winners from each category for the outstanding performances of the year. The winner is then revealed at the SAG Awards Ceremony.Sagawards.org: Why the Awards are unique
