The Sacramento Monarchs play women's professional basketball in the WNBA's Western Conference.
History
The Monarchs joined the WNBA in 1997 as one of the founding eight teams. Success did not come easy as they missed the playoffs their first two seasons. In 1999, they made their first post season appearance, but lost in the first round. They won their first WNBA Championship in 2005, defeating the Connecticut Sun in four games. The Monarchs returned to the WNBA Finals in 2006, but fell to the Detroit Shock.
