In The Battle of Argus, Gladiator Mode is a new gameplay mode where you battle up to 30 successive waves of enemies. Gladiator Mode is new to the Nintendo Wii version of Rygar, and uses the Wii's motion controls extensively. In Gladiator Mode, all attacks are done by swinging the Wii Remote, with the strength of your attacks determined by how hard you swing the Wii Remote.

Attack Moves
Rygar only has three attack moves in Gladiator Mode: Gration's Fang, Harpe's Edge and Vulcan Hammer. All moves use the Wii Remote's motion-sensing capabilities. Their effectiveness is determined by how hard you swing the Wii Remote. To do Gration's Fang, move the control stick, hit A, and then swing and stop the Wii Remote. Rygar will throw forward the Diskarmor and attack the enemy. To do Harpe's Edge, press the A button and swing the Wii Remote horizontally. This attack sends the Diskarmor flying across in front of Rygar. To perform Vulcan Hammer, press the A button and swing the Wii Remote vertically.

Combat Points and Chains
In Gladiator Mode you get points by defeating enemies. To increase your points and your final rank you can do a number of things. Killing multiple enemies gives you a multiple kills bonus, getting a healing item while having full health gets you a full life bonus, and picking up a gem will give you a champion bonus. Also, if you can defeat enemies without taking a hit, each successive kill will add to your Chain Counter, which will increase the number of points you're awarded.Along with your impact rank, which is the average amount of strength you put into your Wii Remote swing, combat points determine your final rank at the end of Gladiator Mode. Depending on what rating you get, you might unlock new items in the game's gallery.

Basics
- This mode has thirty levels of Rygar in a small arena in which the player must kill all the enemies that appear using the Wiimote-controlled Diskarmor. After every five levels, a boss fight begins. After killing all five bosses, the player will fight a secret boss, Erebos. Killing him ends Gladiator Mode and unlocks a special music track in the Gallery.
Controls
- The basic movement controls are the same as Conquest Mode. Rygar also has his slide unlocked.
- The combat controls are far different. Here, you hold A and swing the Wiimote. Rygar will swing the Diskarmor, doing damage in proportional as to how hard the Wiimote was swung. He is invulnerable during the swinging animation (but usually not the wind-up). The attacks are listed below:
- Gration's Fang: Hold A, aim the analog at the enemy, and swing the Wiimote over your head forwards. Rygar will shoot the Diskarmor at the target. This is his fastest attack and is good for counterattacking Doppelgangers.
- Halpe's Edge: Hold A and swing the Wiimote to the side. This attack normally does less damage than the other attacks, but has a massive range and can shove some enemies away. Overall bread-and-butter move.
- Vulcan Hammer: Hold A and swing the Wiimote over your head. Do NOT move the analog while doing so. This is arguably Rygar's best move. He is invulnerable during much of the animation and it does big damage even if the charge is low.
- If you swing the Wiimote hard enough so that the strike is fully charged, Rygar performs a hit that is ranked "S". An S-level hit will stun bosses and knock Cyclopses/Giganti out of their berserker modes. You will also get better scores and a better chance at bonus items.
- The items the enemies drop are small nectar, large nectar, Argus Crest (temporary invincibility) and Mighty Sword (all attacks are temporarily automatically S-level).
Tips
- Basic Enemies: The regular enemies pose no threat with S-level hits from Halpe's Edge. The most dangerous are probably the Hyacinthani who can and will gang up on Rygar; make sure to block often with them.
- Giant Knights: Simply slide behind them and use S-level hits, or hit them with Vulcan Hammer from long range. An S-hit will stun them. You may at times want to kill these first if there are Doppelgangers around as a mistake with these can be very costly.
- Doppelgangers: Hold block and wait for them to execute a combo, then counter, preferably with Gration's Fang or Halpe's Edge if there is a group. They have a surprising amount of health. Can be very annoying with Cyclopses and Giganti about.
- Fighter Cyclopses: Just block and counter with Halpe's Edge, so that a miss is not likely. Unless there is a berserking Hammer Cyclopses, kill these ASAP as otherwise they will get in the way frequently.
- Hammer Cyclopses/Giganti: When they are simply walking around, just plow them with Vulcan Hammer. If they get close, slide away. Halpe's Edge is also a good attack to use for two reasons: one is that it can push them far away, and the other is that Halpe's Edge often triggers their AI into swinging at empty air, allowing you to get in more hits. If they beserk, you MUST slide away and hit them with an S-hit, preferably Vulcan Hammer; S-level hits can knock them out of berserker mode. If you don't, they are guarenteed to kill Rygar quickly.
- Hekatonchieres: The first boss. Kill him the same as his counterpart in Conquest Mode. S-level hits will disrupt the horse's flame breath, making the second half of the battle very easy.
- Minotaur: The second boss. If you are good, you can hit him with S-level hits over and over to kill him, while his own attacks will be nullified by the invincibile animation of your attacks. In fact, perfect this strategy if you can as you will need to later...
- Boa: The third boss. Standing in the same sweet spot as in Conquest Mode works. Halpe's Edge will make short work of him.
- Centaur: The fourth and arguably hardest boss. The first half can be easily dealt with as in the Conquest Mode: follow him with slides and hit him when he stops. When he starts looping around the arena, however, things get difficult as the arrow volleys do big damage and dodging the arrow rain is almost impossible, even using the invulnerable animations of your attacks. You must stay put and keep using S-hit Halpe's Edge to lasso him, canceling his arrow rain and forcing him to keep shooting at Rygar.
- Invisible Minotaur: The fifth boss. Same strategies as regular Minotaur, although he seems to have a significant power increase. You may want to stay close to him as it is otherwise naturally hard to see what attacks he'll do next from afar.
- Cronus: The sixth boss. Even though he is flying, the Diskarmor will automatically track his height. He is extremely weak to Halpe's Edge. Try your best to kill him before he can do the energy blast hail. The spin attack does little damage, so stay close. Kill him to begin the final battle.
- Erebos: The secret final boss. He is essentially a super-powered Minotaur. Unlike the normal Minotaurs, you cannot slide under his attacks, nor can you block his sword (you can still block the shockwave ground pound). The only way to win is to stand in front of him at a decent distance and time your S-level hits (preferably Vulcan Hammer) so that Erebos will strike precisely when you are invulnerable and you in turn stun him for big damage. If you are too close, he will use his faster attacks, which are harder to time. At a distance, his attacks are slower and easier to time your S-level hits to. If you win, you will unlock his theme song in the Gallery.
