The Ryder Cup is a series of golf matches between teams from the United States and Europe. In 2008, the United States won the 37th Ryder Cup held at the Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky. It was the first time the United States had won the competition since 1999.

Origins
The concept of the Ryder Cup Matches first began back in 1926 when a team of professional golfers from America played against a team from the British PGA in an exhibition match. A year later, the first Ryder Cup matches took place. After the U.S. began to dominate the event, teams from Britain and Ireland were added in 1979.
