Olympic Trials Tragedy
Hall won the November 3, 2007, U.S. Men's Olympic Marathon Trials with a record time of 2:09:02, qualifying him to run in the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. Tragically, Hall's friend and colleague, Ryan Shay, collapsed and died during the race.
Shay's death was later ruled to be of natural causes as he was born with an enlarged heart. The condition caused cardiac arrhythmia, which led to his collapse during the race and the fatal heart attack.
