Ryan Getzlaf was born on May 10th, 1985 in Regina, Saskatchewan. His older brother, Chris, is a Canadian Football League (CFL) slotback, who plays for the hometown Roughriders. Ryan played a number of sports while growing up, although hockey was his main focus. Ryan represented Saskatchewan in the 1998 peewee baseball nationals. He graduated in 2003 from Robert Usher Collegiate high school in Regina.
Ryan Getzlaf was drafted 54th overall (3rd round) by the Calgary Hitmen of the Western Hockey League (WHL) in the 2000 WHL Bantam Draft. Hi rookie season was an unimpressive 18-point campaign, but he improved to 68 points in 2002–03. Despite being drafted in 2003, Ryan returned to the Hitmen for two more seasons. He posted a career high (in junior) 75 points in 49 games in 2003-04, and finished his junior career with 54 points in 51 games after returning from a concussion in his final year of junior.
Ducks Career
A professional hockey center for the Anaheim Ducks, Ryan Getzlaf was drafted 19th overall by the Ducks in the 2003 NHL Draft. He did not make his debut with the team until 2005, and he scored 39 points in 57 games during his rookie season. Ryan played all 82 games his second season, scoring 25 goals and 58 points. Getzlaf's 17 points in 21 games led the Anaheim Ducks during their 2007 playoff run, and were a major reason the Ducks won the Stanley Cup.
Ryan Getzlaf followed up his breakout 2007 playoff with consecutive seasons of 82 points, 25 goals and 91 points, and 69 points, in an injury shortened 66 games in 2009-10
International Career
Ryan Getzlaf has represented Canada at every major international tournament. He has participated in the World U17 Championships, World U18 Championships, World Junior Championships, World Championships, and 2010 Winter Olympics. Getzlaf won gold in 2003, 2005, and 2010.
