Ryan Church

Major League Baseball outfielder Ryan Church plays professional baseball for the New York Mets.

Church was promoted to fill in for the injured Carlos Delgado, who underwent surgery. During a May 18, 2009, game, the Mets committed five errors in a 3-2 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Ryan Matthew Church was born in Santa Barbara, California, on October 14, 1978. He would attend the University of Nevada Reno and be drafted by the Cleveland Indians in the 14th round of the 2000 Major League Baseball draft. Church was traded to the Montreal Expos in 2004.

Church would make his major league debut on August 21, 2004, with the Montreal Expos. He would thrive in his first season with the Expos. Before being injured, he was batting .325 and considered a legitimate candidate for Rookie of the Year. He would struggle early in 2006, being sent down to the minors, he would finish the season strongly with the big league club. In 2007, he would establish himself as an everyday major league baseball player. At the end of the season he would be traded to the New York Mets with Brian Schneider for coveted prospect Lastings Milledge.
