Ryan Callahan, is a 5'11, 188 lb. Right Wing for the NY Rangers. This is his third season with the Rangers and was named one of the team's alternate captains prior to the 2009-2010 season.
He joined the Ontario Hockey League playing for the Guelph Storm in 2002 and played there until 2006. In the 2004-05 season, he made the OHL Third All-Star Team. Callahan made the 2005 World Junior Championships for the United States team and scored 1 goal and 3 points in 7 games.
In 2006, he played for the Hartford Wolf Pack in the American Hockey League, (the Rangers' affiliate team) and made the AHL All-Rookie Team.

While playing for the Rangers in 2007, he made the 2007 World Championship, which was held in Russia. However, although he made it to Moscow, his bags were lost, which included his equipment, and he could not play. The U.S. team lost to Finland in a 5-4 shootout.
His abilities to kill penalties, as well as his scoring talent, made him a prime candidate for the 2010 Olympics. Feb. 28, 2010 Gold Medal Game - United States vs Canada
Results: Canada-3 (Gold Medal) United States-2 (Silver Medal)
The final game of the 2010 Olympics was the grand finale to the games. The gamut of emotions that both teams had to have experienced must have been incredible, to say the least. Fans for both teams were mentally exhausted from the game after feeling jubilation and disappointment, panic and relief, hand wringing and furious applause. The overtime win for Canada with the goal by Sydney Crosby was certainly a game not soon forgotten. Both teams played the game that everyone expected. Ryan Callahan played for 9min 14sec with one shot on goal. With every game, Team U.S.A. improved playing together with players they usually play against. In an interview with the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle following the game, Callahan said, "It was pretty special the way we came together as one," Callahan said. Feb. 26, 2010 Semifinal - United States vs Finland

In the Semifinal game, the United States team came out like a whirling dervish scoring all of their 6 goals within 12min 46sec into the game. Finland switched goalies after the 4th goal was scored, but 2 1/2 minutes later, Patrick Kane shot one in, followed by the Paul Stastny (Colorado Avalanche) goal 15 seconds later. Finland's only goal was scored by Antti Miettinen (Minnesota Wild) in a power play situation at 14:46 into the third. US Goalie, Ryan Miller was pulled from the game at 8:29 of the third and replaced by back up goalie, Tim Thomas. Ryan Callahan played 8min 15sec in the game.
Feb. 24, 2010 Quarterfinal - United States vs Switzerland
Results: USA-2 Switzerland-1
The Quarterfinal game between the U.S. and Switzerland was a defensive battle. Team USA took 44 shots on goal against the Swiss' 19. The goalie for the Swiss team, Jonas Hiller was stellar, blocking 43 of the 44 shots the US team blasted at him. The 2nd goal for the US team was an empty net goal for Zach Parise, his second of the game. Team USA made a goal as time in the second period ran out, and it was determined that the puck had not crossed the line before the time ran out. Another goal was disallowed when Ryan Kesler was called for high sticking. Ryan Callahan played 8min 18sec in the game and was called for the first penalty of the game.
Feb. 21, 2010 Game 3 - United States vs Canada
Results: USA- 5 Canada-3
In the 3rd game of the preliminaries, underdog, Team USA beat the the Canadian Team 5-3 for the first time in 50 years. Brian Rafelski (Detroit Red Wings) scored the first of his two goals 41 seconds into the first period. Canada tied the game at 8:53 into the first with a goal from Eric Staal (Carolina Hurricanes), but Brian Rafelski answered back 22 seconds later with his second goal of the game, and 4th in the last two games. The other 3 US goals were added by Chris Drury (New York Rangers), a power play goal by Jamie Langenbrunner (New Jersey Devils),, and an empty net goal by Ryan Kesler (VanCouver Canucks). The other Canadian scores came from Dany Heatley (San Jose Sharks) and a power play goal by Sidney Crosby (Pittsburg Penguins). All of the players in this game were from the NHL.
There were 7 penalties in the game, 4 for Canada for 8 minutes in the box, and 3 for the U.S. resulting in 6 minutes in the box.
Ryan Callahan played 11min 02sec, and had 1 shot on goal.
Feb. 18, 2010 Game 2 - United States vs Norway
Results: USA -6 Norway-1
Team USA won easily against Norway. In the first period, goals were scored by Phil Kessel (Toronto Maple Leaves) and Chris Drury (New York Rangers). In the second period, Patrick Kane (Chicago Blackhawks) scored for Team USA and the lone goal for Norway was scored by Marius Holtet. The three third period goals for the U.S. came from Ryan Malone (Tampa Bay Lightening and Detroit Red Wing, Brian Rafalski scored two goals late in the period. The first was a power play goal coming at with 3 minutes left in the period, then another at 19:23 in the third.
There were 7 penalties during the game, 5 against Norway for a total of 10 minutes in the box, and 2 against the U.S. for a total of 4 minutes.

Team USA defeated the Swiss Team in their first game of the series 3-1, with goals from Bobby Ryan (Anaheim Ducks), David Backes (St. Louis Blues), and Ryan Malone (Tampa Bay Lightening). 2009/10 Season
Although Callahan started off the 2009/10 season rather sluggishly, his play has improved getting further into the season. As of January, the Rangers are averaging approximately 50-50 in the win and lost columns. In the Nov.12, 2009 loss to the Atlanta Thrashers, Callahan threw down against Zach Bogosian because of a cross-checking incident. Brian Burke, GM of Team USA Hockey recognized Callahan's talents both in defensive and offensive roles and named him to the team.
2008/09
Callahan's season highlighted his talents as a hockey player, even though the Rangers finished 7th in the Eastern Conference. Callahan played 81 games with 22 goals and 18 assists. His hard driving tenacity and in your face attitude has made him one of the crowd favorites at Madison Square Garden.

In the playoffs, the Rangers faced the Washington Capitals. In the second game of the series, Callahan scored 7:44 into the game. The score proved to be the game winner in this defensive battle. Unfortunately, after taking a 3-0 lead in the series, the Capitals came back to win the series 4-3.

2007/08
Early in the season, Callahan suffered a knee sprain and was out for nearly a month. Upon his return to the Rangers, he failed to score in 16 games, so he was returned to the Hartford Wolf Pack until Feb. 3, 2008, when he was called to replace an injured Brendan Shanahan. http://www.hockeyfanzone.com/showthread.php?t=14190 His previous level of play prior to the knee sprain returned.
