In a message posted on his official site, Adams said he would be taking a break from music.

"Know that I am not abandoning anyone, not the Cardinals and not the fans. This is just something I need to do now, and that I loved playing music in the Cardinals. And hell, even before I was in a place to try and learn to be well, music was my life source, and Cardinals was such a heavy crush and a real dream. I honor it too much to have any regrets right now. Ryan's second release Gold has been his most popular, selling more than 364,000 copies. The album was long, with 16 tracks, and earned Adams two Grammy nominations in 2002 for Best Male Rock Vocal for the song "New York, New York," and Best Male Country Vocal for "Lovesick Blues."
