Rutgers University is an American institution of higher learning. Known officially as "Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey", it is the eighth oldest college in the country. There are three campus locations in New Jersey: one in Camden, one in Newark, and the main campus location in New Brunsiwck.
Education in the Garden State
Originally established as Queen's College, Rutgers is the only state Universities|university in the United States not named for its state, and is the only university in the country that is a colonial chartered college, a land-grant institution, and a state university. Legendary scientist Selman Waksman developed each of his 22 antibiotics, including sterptomycin which helped defeat the spread of tuberculosis, at Rutgers. Today the university offers more than 300 professional degree programs across 175 academic departments.
