Russian Food

Russian cuisine originates from peasant food of rural Russia. Harsh climates prevented strong growth of vegetables, therefore other foods had to be used when preparing meals. Combinations of poultry, fish, limited crops, and other items were the basis of the Russian diet. Soups and stews that depended on seasonal food became a staple of Russia.

Russian Soups

Soup is one of the most important parts of the Russian food menu. The range of Russian soups is very vast, with soups and stews that can be served hot or cold. Russian soups can be water and vegetable based and contain noodles and meat. They can also be cabbage based. Soups can also contain large portions of meat or fish, or they can be made solely using grains.
