Russell Martin

  • Major League Baseball catcher Russell Martin currently plays for the Los Angeles Dodgers.

    Martin was originally drafted on June 4, 2002 by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 17th round of the MLB Draft. He joined the Dodgers' minor league affiliates for his first few seasons, playing well enough to earn him two minor league All-Star games elections.

    On May 5, 2006, Martin was called up to make his MLB debut with the Dodgers. He played 121 games his rookie season, finishing with a .282 batting average. Martin was also ninth in voting for the MLB Rookie of the Year Award.

    Martin returned to the Dodgers for 151 games in 2007, including his first MLB All-Star Game selection. He completed the season with a .293 batting average and was picked for the National League Silver Slugger and Golden Glove awards.
