Plot Synopsis
Augusten Burroughs retelling of his childhood and adolescent experiences chronicles his mother's gradual break-down, his parents divorce, and his introduction to the family of Dr. Finch (based on the real Rodolph Turcotte) a psychiatrist with questionable methods.
Critical Reception
While the real Turcotte family sued (and eventually lost) Augusten Burroughs for defamation of character and slander, the book was a success. It was the basis for the film of the same name, and spent over 70 weeks on The New York Times Best Sellers List.
