    Runescape is different from most other MMORPGs because you do not have to choose a class for your character at the start of your game. Instead, you can change between the three combat styles any time during the game simply by changing armor and weaponry. Characters in the game can also learn skills that help them to earn money inside the game play. Within the game itself are mini-games that allow players' characters to receive special items when they win. All battles are played out in real-time.

    In order to reduce the chances of successful hackers using automated programs (known as bots), Runescape has implemented what is known as random events. In addition, holidays are programmed into the game so that if a player completes the required tasks during certain events they will receive an exclusive reward.
