Runes are a set of stones used for divination purposes that are made from natural materials and inscribed with an ancient alphabet or markings. The most commonly used version of the runic divination is Futhark, which is made up of 24 different symbols separated into three different groups.
Tips
A vast majority of practitioners recommend not using Runic stones that are Druid, Celtic or Witch in origin because the oldest and most documented form of use came from the Germanic people, thereby making their runes the correct ones to use.
It is also recommended to become familiar with the symbols written on the runes before you begin casting, that way the most accurate interpretation can be achieved. Practitioners also suggest keeping a journal of readings.
History
Although there are conflicting reports that runic divination began with the Druids, Vikings and Celtics, most sources maintain that they originated with the Germanic people from Eastern and Central Europe.
Process
There are several different castings that can be done when reading the runes, depending on the results or answers being looked for.
- The One Rune Method: Used to answer a specific question
- Three Rune Method: To understand a situation or providing an idea about future outcomes
- The Roman Method: Recommended to use runes created from a fruit-bearing tree. Is a variation of the three rune method
- The Nine Rune Cast: Detailed overview of a person's situation
