Early Life
Rudy Carlton Gay Jr. was born in Baltimore, Maryland, on August 17, 1986, and he went on to attend Archbishop Spalding High School. He continued his education at the University of Connecticut. In 2006, Gay was selected by the Houston Rockets with the 8th pick in the NBA Draft.Basketball-Reference.com: Rudy GayPro Career
After the draft, Gay was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies with Stromile Swift for small forward Shane Battier. In his first season with the Grizzlies, Gay appeared in 78 games and averaged 10.8 points.
