The WWE Royal Rumble is an annual professional wrestling pay-per-view event that takes place in January.
The 2010 Royal Rumble, which was held on January 31, 2010, in Atlanta, Georgia, was won by Edge.
Background
The Royal Rumble is one of the WWE's most popular pay-per-views. Since its inception in 1988, the event has typically featured a few singles and tag team matches, but the centerpiece is the Royal Rumble match itself.
A variation of the battle royal, the Royal Rumble features 30 wrestlers who enter the ring at scheduled intervals (usually between 1-2 minutes). Elimination occurs only when a wrestler is thrown over the top rope with both feet hitting the arena floor.
The last person in the ring after 29 others have been eliminated is the winner, and gets a shot at the WWE Championship or World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania.
