Rowan Williams is the Archbishop of Canterbury. He was enthroned at St. Paul's Cathedral in London on December 2, 2002. Williams ordained the openly homosexual Bishop Gene Robinson which divided the Anglican church. He has recently become the center of controversy again over his comments about the Islamic Sharia Law.
Church Politics
Rowan Williams served as Bishop of Monmouth from 1991 to 1999. A few years later he was confirmed Archbishop of Canterbury and after a short time at the throne, urged Christians to engage in politics. Williams has freely spoken about terrorism, consumerism, and the environment and has made progressive decisions in the church, such as the ordination of women in 2005.BBC: Dr. Rowan Williams
