Roseanne (TV Show)

Roseanne is an Emmy Award winning sitcom which aired on ABC from 1988 to 1997. It was created by stand-up comedian Roseanne Barr who starred as Roseanne Conner factory employee turned loose meat diner owner turned lottery winner. John Goodman starred as her husband Dan. Their children were played by Sara Gilbert, Lecy Goranson, Sarah Chalke and Michael Fishman. Always at Roseanne's side was her sister Jackie played by Laurie Metcalf

The show was considered revolutionary for depicting American blue collar family life realistically. The program dealt with a wide range of cutting edge issues including domestic violence, alcoholism, and poverty.

Ultimately the program was taken off the air due to low ratings and high production cost.

When Lacy Goranson the original actress who played the Conners' eldest daughter went to college Becky she was replaced by Canadian actress Sarah Chalke. When Goranson returned from college the two women shared the role. The writers often made references and jokes about the switch in the scripts.
