  • Rosa Parks, a black woman, refused to give up her seat on a bus for a white passenger on December 1, 1955. Her action, and subsequent arrest, prompted the Montgomery Bus Boycott, which eventually resulted in a U.S. Supreme Court decision declaring the segregated bus law unconstitutional.
