Rosa Gumatao Rios, a veteran government official in the field of economic development, has held posts in several northern California cities, including Oakland and Fremont.
On May 15, 2009, Rios was nominated by President Obama to serve as United States Treasurer. Rios had worked for Obama's 2008 campaign and presidential transition team.
