Ron Washington is the manager of the Texas Rangers. Washington became the Rangers manager in 2006, taking over for the dismissed Buck Showalter. Before assuming his first manager's role, Washington was a highly regarded infield coach with the Oakland Athletics.
2010 Cocaine Use Allegations
On March 17, 2010, Ron Washington admitted to having used cocaine during the last season. He apparently may have even been under the influence of cocaine while games last season were in play as well. In addition to these admissions, Ron Washington also reportedly used cocaine while playing golf at the Masters Golf Open Tour. The Masters Tour occurs each year and is always held at the Augusta National Golf Club.
As a consequence for these actions, Washington may face possibly being banned from the sport of baseball altogether. More than a mere suspension, Washington apparenelty faces much more severe punishment. All this, according to the website Daily World Buzz.
Ron Washington's confession is reported as having occurred after he and the team returned to Texas. The Major League Baseball Association has stepped up its drug testing program in recent months. Apparently, Ron Washington—after returning to Texas—was scheduled to have such a drug test performed. He allegedly opted to confess his past drug use around that time. Coaching Accompishment
During his time as a coach for the Oakland Athletics, Washington is accredited with helping the team develop one of the best defensive infields in the American League.
