Czar Nicholas II and his family were executed by the Bolsheviks in 1918. Two of his children's bodies were missing, leading to speculation that Alexei and Anastasia had survived. The Romanov mystery has now been solved with the discovery of the two remaining bodies.

Mystery Origin
The Romanov mystery surrounds the execution of the family of Czar Nicholas II. The family thought they were posing for a picture but were soon executed by a Bolshevik firing squad. The Bolsheviks made efforts to destroy the bodies by dousing them with acid; however the remains of all but two children were later discovered.
Mystery Solved
Two amateur detectives used the accounts of one of the killers to track down where the remains of the remaining two children, Alexei and Anastasia, were placed. After DNA confirmation, it seems likely that the remains found by this team are in fact the actual remains that have been a source of mystery since 1918.
