  • Spoken by approximately 28 million speakers, Romanian is the official language of Romania, Moldova and the autonomous Serbian province of Vojvodina. In comparison to other Romance languages, Romanian most closely resembles Italian. The two languages are asymmetrically intelligible; Romanian speakers understand Italian more easily than Italian speakers understand Romanian.
