- 264-146 BC: Rome battles Carthage in the three Punic Wars.
- 133: Tribunate of Tiberius Gracchus.
- 105 BC: Gaius Marius recruits his army from the capite censi, beginning his Marian Reforms.
- 88 BC: Lucius Cornelius Sulla marches on Rome.
- 49 BC: Julius Caesar crosses the Rubicon river.
- 49-45 BC: Civil war pits Julius Caesar against Pompeius Magnus.
- 44 BC: Caesar is assassinated on the Ides of March.
