Roller Skating

Roller Skating is an outdoor/indoor hobby or sport in which the participant wears shoes or boots with wheels attached to the bottom.

History

The inventor of the roller skate is unknown. The first recorded skate inventor was John-Joseph Merlin in 1760. The first patented roller skate design was patented in France by M. Petitbled, in 1819. The roller skate as we know it now was invented in 1863 in New York City by James Leonard Plimpton.

Types of Skates

  1. Inline skates: Usually have 4 or 5 wheels, arranged in a single line and a stop located at the heel
  2. The classic quad roller skate: Is comprised of four wheels in a rectangular pattern with a stop being located at the front of the skate
