August 4, 2008: 33-year-old Rolf Bae was killed, along with ten others, on an expedition up the K2 mountain. The group was killed during an ice avalanche over the weekend. Bae was reportedly making a descent from 8,000 feet when falling ice struck him. Eleven people have been confirmed dead after an ice avalanche occurred on K2, the second-highest mountain peak in the world.
