  • Roger Waters is an English rock, singer, guitarist, bassist, songwriter, and composer. He was the bassist and one of the founding members of Pink Floyd, creating the band in 1965 with Syd Barrett, Nick Mason and Richard Wright (David Gilmour would later replace Barrett).

On June 2, 2009, while visiting a Palestinian refugee camp located near the concrete wall separating the nation from Israel, Waters said he hoped "this awful thing is destroyed soon," promising to take the stage right when the wall falls, much like he did following the fall of the Berlin Wall.Examiner.com: Pink Floyd's Waters: West Bank wall must come down

  • Background

Pink Floyd became one of the most popular and influential bands in rock music, and Waters became the mastermind and songwriter behind most of the albums Animals and The Wall. Much of Waters' writing during Pink Floyd was inspired by the World War II death of his father when he was a child and the mental breakdown of former bandmate Syd Barrett. Waters left Pink Floyd in the '80s to embark on a solo career, and the band continued on with Gilmour as the leader. Waters frequently performs Floyd songs at live concerts.
