Career Highlights
Staubach first made waves as a football sensation while playing for the U.S. Navy team. Leading that team to victory in several Army-Navy games, he also won the Heisman Trophy. After completing college, he served his required time in the Navy as a supply officer in Vietnam and also stateside. Despite the fact that the Dallas Cowboys had actually drafted him in 1964, he didn't start playing in the NFL until he resigned his military commission in 1969. Staubach went on to become one of the most awarded quarterbacks in the NFL, leading the Cowboys through 9 of their record 20 consecutive winning seasons.
