Roger Federer is a professional tennis player from Switzerland. As of June 2010 he is ranked number two in the world, and is the reigning Wimbledon and Australian Open champion.

In September 2009, Federer lost the US Open final to Juan Martin Del Potro after a dramatic five set battle.This ended his five year unbeaten run at the tournament.
In the first big tournament of 2010, the Ausralian Open, Federer faced a tough opening match, but his form improved as the tournament went on, and he went on to win a record 16th Grand Slam title, beating Andy Murray in straight sets.in the final. Federer knocked-out in Wimbledon 2010 Quarter-Final
Federer lost his quarter-final match at Wimbledon 2010 to Czech 12th seed Tomas Berdych. The 6-4 3-6 6-1 6-4 result was considered a shock by commentators, as the 24 year old Czech reached new career heights to overcome the top seed, Federer. Berdych's play was outstanding, and he received a standing ovation from the Centre Court crowd.

Wimbledon 2009 - 15 Grand Slams
Federer won his 15th Grand Slam by defeating Andy Roddick in the Wimbledon men's final on July 5, 2009. The fifth set of the final match went to a score of 16 to 14, the longest fifth set in tournament history.
With this victory, Federer became the all-time record holder for the number of Grand Slams won. Pete Sampras graciously flew in to attend the final and watch Federer break his record.
2009 French Open
Federer won the French Open in June 2009, to match Pete Sampras' record of 14 career Grand Slams. He also became one of the few players to have won all four Grand Slam titles, and the first in Men's Singles since Andre Agassi.
His opponent in the final, Robin Soderling, described Federer as "for me the greatest player in history".
During the 2009 French Open championship match, a fan made his way on to the court and attempted to put a hat on Federer's head. Federer - The Greatest Ever?
Whether Roger Federer is the greatest player of all time has become a much discussed question in tennis circles. The majority of commentators believe that he is the greatest, while most of those remaining say only that is not possible to fairly compare players of different eras.
Among those who give Roger the accolade of "greatest ever" are fellow tennis legends Pete Sampras, Boris Becker. and Andre Agassi.
Rod Laver, a champion from a very different era, says that comparisons are not possible, but nevertheless expresses great admiration for Roger Federer.

Early Years
At the age of six, Roger Federer began playing tennis and by the age of eleven, was amongst the top three in Switzerland. Finding a balance between school and tennis, Federer played in two to three tournaments a month and practiced five to six hours a week.
