    • Clemens allegedly sent McCready money to help with legal problems
  • Allegations surfaced on April 28, 2008, that Major League Baseball pitcher Roger Clemens had a decade-long affair with country music singer Mindy McCready. A report in the New York Daily News said the affair began when McCready was 15 years old, after the two met in a Florida karaoke bar. At the time, Clemens was 28 years old and pitching for the Boston Red Sox. In a statement through his attorney, Clemens denied any sexual relationship with McCready, calling her a "close family friend." An attorney for McCready would not comment on the story.

On April 29, the New York Post published an interview with McCready in which she admitted the affair.

  • The Allegations

The Daily News cited unidentified sources as saying Clemens and McCready carried on their clandestine relationship for many years, taking trips together to New York and Las Vegas. And while McCready reportedly broke off the affair in 2006, The News said Clemens continued to reach out to her - sending money for her legal troubles. McCready spent time in jail in 2007 on a probation violation.
  • Fallout

The Daily News story said the alleged relationship could weaken Clemens' reputation in the wake of his defamation lawsuit against his former trainer, Brian McNamee. McNamee claims he injected Clemens with steroids between 1998 and 2001.
