Rod Stewart has sung for The Faces, The Jeff Beck Group and has had many hits as a solo artist. In 2007, he released a top-selling CD of covers titled Still the Same: Great Rock Classics Of Our Time.
Stewart made an appearance on Dancing with the Stars season 9 during the November 3, 2009 elimination night. He performed "It's the Same Old Song."
Musical Evolution
Stewart's early solo work was an airy blend of folk rock blues and classic soul (particularly Sam Cooke). His first four solo efforts were critically acclaimed and many of Stewart's original compositions from this period remain FM radio staples, including "Maggie May" and "You Wear It Well." Stewart's turn toward commercial pop—and his increasing reliance on material from other songwriters—began with 1975's Atlantic Crossing, then spiraled to the disco-influenced Blondes Have More Fun and a 1980s career as a celebrity sex symbol. In the early 1990s, Stewart tentatively returned to his original style, and then saw another surge in popularity with a four volume series of albums covering classic pop standards, The Great American Songbook.
