Rocking Chairs

Categories: Products | Parenting
    • AKA: Rocker
    • Invention often attributed to Benjamin Franklin, but this is widely thought to be folklore
    • Actually originated in the 18th century in England
    • Originally made by cabinet makers in America
    • Most popularly used in nurseries or elder-care facilities
    • Often equipped with pads and cushions
  • Inspired by the cradle and even the rocking horse, which also pre-dated them, rocking chairs provide a soothing motion by being able to gently rock back and forth. This movement is made possible by curved attachments—usually wooden—to the bottom of the chair called rockers.
  • Rocking Chair Safety

Children and pets should be monitored closely around rocking chairs as injury can occur if a tail or a finger or toe is caught under the rockers.
