While many critics have noted that playing Rock Band with the guitar controller is nothing like playing a real guitar, that is not the case with the drum controller. On Expert mode, many have noted that though it is not exactly like playing real drums, it is a very close approximation, applying real drum skills to the gameplay or teaching real drum skills to would-be drummers. Real drummers have only complained about the easier modes, noting that the reduced use of the kick pedal throws them off, as a typical song for drums makes heavy use of the kick pedal.
