Mediate began playing golf while at Florida Southern University. Mediate turned professional in 1985, but his career has been plagued with back troubles.Besides his second place finish at the 2008 U.S. Open, in major championships, Mediate finished sixth in the 2002 PGA Championship, tied for 15th at the 2001 Masters and tied for 18th at the 1996 British Open.
