  • Robotech is an American cartoon television series from Harmony Gold composed of and adapted from three different Japanese Anime series. The series featured the consequences of alien technology adapted for use by human beings, and the three interstellar wars Earth subsequently became involved with.
  • An Ambitious Vision

Producer Carl Macek wanted to bring as much of the drama and complexity of popular Japanese anime to United States audiences, especially after his disappointment with the adaptation of 1972's Kagaku ninja tai Gatchaman as Battle of the Planets. Because first-run syndication in the US required a minimum of 65 episodes, Macek worked with three shorter anime, and he and a team of writers built a multi-generational storyline to make the independent source material work as a cohesive whole. The rights to a feature-film adaptation of Robotech belong to Warner Brothers and Maguire Entertainment, and Tobey Maguire may play a leading role in a possible release.
