Robonaut is a robot designed for space exploration and related tasks that would normally be performed by human astronaut. The robot was designed by NASA in conjunction with DARPA, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency. Robonaut features an anthropomorphic upper half; it has two hands with dexterous fingers designed for complex tasks, cameras mounted inside the head, and a human-like torso. Some models of Robotnaut have a set of wheels on their lower half intended for exploring the topography of other planets, and some have a single leg designed for zero gravity locomotion within a spacecraft. Specifications for Robonaut were released in 2004, but in April 2008 Robonaut was assigned it's first actual mission: it will be sent to orbit the moon, but the mission is not likely to take place before 2020.
