    Cano was signed by the New York Yankees out of high school in 2001. He would make his Major League Debut on May 3, 2005. He would finish second in Rookie of the Year Voting. He would follow up his rookie campaign with a selection to the 2006 All-Star team and finish the season third in batting with an impressive average of of .342. In 2008, he signed a six year contract extension with the Yankees.
