  • Career

Chosen as a first round draft pick by the Brewers in 1973, Yount debuted with the club the following year at the age of 18. Until 1979, Yount was a good shortstop, an above-average, but not exceptional, hitter, a good base-stealer, and a low-power producer. However, all of that would change in 1980, when Yount became an All-Star for the first time. In 1982, Yount clubbed 29 home runs and drove in 114 while batting .331, stats which earned the shortstop his first of two MVP awards and helped lead the Brewers to the World Series for the first (and only) time. By the end of the 1980s, Yount had gathered more hits than any other player in the decade, while picking up another MVP award in 1989. In 1999, Yount was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame, and after his career has served as a coach with the Arizona Diamondbacks and Brewers.
