Rossellini and Bergman
In 1945, Rossellini was asked to come to America by David O. Selznick, to direct a film starring Ingrid Bergman. Bergman herself wrote to Rossellini to encourage him to accept the assignment. He declined the film, but began a correspondence with Bergman. Rossellini and Bergman were married in 1950.
