  • Roberto Clemente was a baseball player for the Pittsburgh Pirates from 1955-1972. He was the first Latin player selected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1973. Clemente won 2 World Series rings and 4 National League Batting Titles. During his outstanding career he was honored numerous times including 12 Gold Glove Awards, 12 MLB All-Star Game selections, 1 NL MVP award and 1 World Series MVP award. Known as much for his philanthropy off the field as he was for his talent, he died in a plane crash while delivering supplies to earthquake victims in Nicaragua.
